Steps to Disable Cached Exchange Mode via GPO

Download Group Policy Administrative Template (ADMX) files for MS Office and Microsoft 365 apps on your Domain Controller server. Download the correct file based on the Outlook version used in your organization.

o ADMX/ADML Files for Office 2016/2019

o ADMX/ADML Files for Office 2013

o ADMX/ADML Files for Office 2010

— Run the downloaded program file, accept the license terms, and click ‘Continue.’

— Select a folder where you want to extract the data and click ‘OK.’ For instance, we created a new folder ‘GPO Office 2016.

— Go to the extracted folder location and open the admx folder. Copy the files ending with the .admx extension.

— Now open C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions and paste the copied .admx files.

— Go back to the extracted folder location and copy the adml files from admx\en-us\ folder and paste them in C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions\en-us\ folder location.

— Now open the Group Policy Management, right-click on the OU where you want to apply the group policy, and choose ‘Create a GPO in this domain, and Link it here….

— Enter the GPO name and click ‘OK.

— Right-click on the new GPO you created and select ‘Edit.’

— Navigate to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Microsoft Outlook 2013, 2016 or 2019 > Account Settings > Exchange > Cached Exchange Mode.

— Double-click on ‘Cached Exchange Mode Sync Settings’ and select Disabled from the settings.

Click ‘Apply>OK.’
